What does “Green Chemistry and Advanced Materials” domain include? From a technical point of view, actions leaded by two objectives:
- Sustainability (from different points of view: environment, budget, social…) in chemical processes and products
- Performance, both from technical and environmental point of view, strictly related with materials and their processing
Some strategic priorities for the region are highlighted:
- Products from renewable and biodegradable materials (bio-based products)
- Environmental impact reduction through process optimization and products replacement
- VHCP replacement
- Improved performances materials
- Production of energy and heat from biomasses (agroforestry, production waste or organic waste)
- Biomass logistic
- Energy efficiency in production plants and management models with exchange (smart grid)
In 2016 and for the “Linea B” call 2017, the research strategic agenda of the cluster includes:
- Advanced materials from renewable resources for smart food-packaging
- Vegetal biomass treatment, byproducts and scraps to obtain biobased products
- Advanced materials and innovative design for products with new features
- Improved materials for logistic sector
- Unconventional materials and technologies integration for the manufacturing sector
- VHCP replacement
- Innovative materials for energy sector
- Materials and technologies for the biomedical sector
- High value materials for product traceability
- Innovative materials and technologies for additive manufacturing
- Innovative materials and technologies for the integration of new features in products
- Advanced materials for smart packaging
- Materials and models for the optimization of food-contact products
- Pre-treatment, treatment and conversion of vegetal biomass, byproducts and scraps for the production of biofuels, energy and heat
- Biogas purification and biomethane upgrading
- Innovation and efficiency upgrade of the biomass value chain (logistic, production, harvesting, characterization, stock, pre-treatment, conversion)
- Non conventional solutions and technologies for pre-treatment and treatment of biomasses
- Energy management models (from renewable sources, too): smart grid
