Innovative BIo-based and Sustainable products and processes - NOVARA
The IBIS Consortium (Innovative BIo-based and Sustainable products and processes) was born in 2009 in Novara as a Piedmont innovation cluster of Sustainable Chemistry with the aim of networking the skills and experiences of the most innovative chemical companies in the area and stimulating, through a process of animation, the various actors of the supply chain in order to innovate chemistry and make it more compatible with the environment.
Until January 2016 the IBIS Consortium managed the “Innovation Pole of Sustainable Chemistry”, one of the 12 Innovation Poles identified by the Piedmont Region in relation to the specific technological vocations of each territory, complementary to each other and linked by close collaborative relationships.
Since February 2016 IBIS has been co-manager of the Piedmont Innovation Pole CGREEN (Green Chemistry and Advanced Materials) , one of the 7 structures co-financed by the Piedmont Region through a contribution from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the ROP 2014-2020 with the aim of allowing innovation-oriented companies to access infrastructures and services with high added value and funding for research and innovation.
As co-manager of the Green Chemistry and Advanced Materials Pole, IBIS is responsible for stimulating, coordinating and selecting the demand for innovative services and projects coming from the aggregated subjects.
The Consortium currently brings together 13 companies, 3 Piedmont Universities, the ITI Omar of Novara and the Province of Novara, has its registered office at the Industrial Association of Novara and operational headquarters at the structure of the Novara Development Foundation located in the Sant’Agabio district. in Novara and is characterized by an extremely lean organization that is open to the entry of other members interested in the prospects and potential of the cluster.
IBIS Consortium is member of SPRING – Italian Cluster of Green Chemistry, association no-profit which brings organizations operating in the bio-economy sector and represents the Italian “green” chemical supply chain. It is also a member of the Project Council of the international collaboration network called ECRN (European Chemical Regions Network), a European stakeholder in the debate on chemical policy. It actively participates in collaborative research projects at European level in the field of Circular Economy, sustainable mobility and Green Chemistry.
It is a member of the ITS Biotechnology and New Life Sciences Foundation in Ivrea (TO).
P.S.T. S.p.A.
Science and Technology Park from Valle Scrivia - TORTONA
The Science and Technology Park in Valle Scrivia is one of 6 Scientific and Technological Parks created by Regione Piemonte to encourage the spread of innovation and the exchange of know-how between universities, research centers and businesses. To manage the Science and Technology Park in Valle Scrivia, the P.S.T. S.p.A. – a company of mixed public and private capital was created. The Shareholders of P.S.T. S.p.A:

- Local Private Contributors 3,5% (Gavio Group, Business Associates, Chamber of Commerce)
- Local Public Contributors 2,5% (Tortona Town Council, Energia e Territorio S.p.A.)
The Science Park manages an industrial site of 23,000m2, divided into 7 blocks of buildings on a total land area of 100,000 m2 with a wide spaces and green areas. One building is reserved for management offices, common rooms and small spaces suitable for small start-ups. The other six buildings are designated for renting offices or local operating units of innovative companies. Currently, the PST hosts around 20 innovative companies with a total of around 300 employees, focused on product or process innovation activities mainly in the fields of chemistry, controls and certifications.
The main sites include Versalis’ laboratories (ENI Group), SINA (Gavio Group) and Boero Bartolomeo. In addition, there are small businesses, some of which have been active for a long time and others still in the start-up phase, dynamic and lively companies committed to innovation in their respective core businesses.
P.S.T. S.p.A. operates mainly in two areas of activity
- promotion of its spaces to attract new settlements
- dissemination of technological innovation in companies, with a particular focus on small and medium-sized ones.
The dissemination activity has found a strong impetus and specialization since 31 March 2009, when P.S.T. S.p.A. was recognized by the Piedmont Region as the managing entity of POLIBRE, the Regional Innovation Centre for Renewable Energies and Biofuels. Since September 2016, POLIBRE has been part of the CGreen Pole and P.S.T. S.p.A. is its co-manager together with IBIS Consortium and Proplast Consortium.
Proplast Consortium
Consortium for the Promotion of Plastic Culture - ALESSANDRIA
PROPLAST is a technology center focused on research and innovation in the plastic world, by integrating the industrial and academic competencies, approaches and needs. In addition, since 2012 it is recognized as Cluster at European level. (ESCA silver labelled).
Proplast was created in 1998 and is organized as a consortium that nowadays includes 169 enterprises, 9 industrial associations and 13 academic members.
Proplast facilities include pilot lines of the main technologies for polymer production and processing, i.e. extrusion and compounding, injection molding and thermoforming, fiber reinforced composite production. Several pieces of equipment are specifically dedicated to recycling (milling, filter-supported extrusion, filter test, etc.). Moreover, Proplast has an advanced design lab (CAD/CAM, FEM analysis, structural analysis, processing simulation and material characterization laboratories.
Experience, specialized skills, a quality-oriented mindset, versatility and a collaborative approach allow Proplast to be an important player in the plastics world for all activities – design, research, technical support and training. Our whole team is committed on a daily basis to achieve goals and share with our customers and our cluster’s members.
Therefore, Proplast has been involved in several collaborative research projects at European (Plasticircle, Newpack – H2020) and national level (Reciplast, Prime, Deflect – Piedmont Region), and in different type of collaborative cluster projects at European Level (4zeroPlast and PackAlliance – ERASMUS+ Programme, S3-4AlpClusters – Alpine Space Programme, Materialix- H2020 and WIINTECH- Cosme Programme).
Since 2008, Proplast is recognized as the managing body of the new materials innovation cluster, and since 2016, co-manager of “CGreen – Green chemistry and advanced materials” in Italian Piedmont region.
Furthermore, Plastics Academy, Proplast’s subsidiary company, offers training activities services for employed and unemployed people. It collaborates with academic institutes dealing with advanced training courses for young people, and also in the specialization of unemployed people in order to include them on the job world. In addition, Plastics Academy organizes technical training courses customized for companies.
